It takes basically a little over a second to breathe in, 20 times per minute to both exhale and inhale, or 1200 times per hour, 15000 times per day, (bearing in mind a slower breathing during your 7 hours sleep). In a year time, we would have spent 5 million times and a half breathing. Useful figures? Not really, but fun during a dinner party maybe.

To function effectively the cells of the body need a continuous supply of oxygen and a means of removing carbon dioxide. The respiratory system‘s primary function is to allow the efficient exchange of gases into and out of the body.
